CREATIVITY AS A DRIVER FOR URBAN REGENERATION: A LARGE-SCALE MOSAIC AT THE DAP

Students from Gratosoglio are engaged in creating a major piece of public art to decorate the Municipio 5 building, guided by the awareness that the strength of the whole is born from the diversity of its pieces

The spaces of THE DAP – Dei Missaglia Art Park – hosted the creation of a large-scale mosaic of approximately 100 square meters dedicated to Gino Strada, Fernanda Wittgens, Anna Kuliscioff, and Brunella Gasperini—prominent figures whose work will serve as an inspiration and role model for future generations. Creating this magnificent piece of public art were the students from the Kandinsky Institute in Gratosoglio. They were entrusted with the task of studying the four historical figures, visualizing them by "telling their stories” through drawings, and finally assembling the mosaic under the guidance of their graphic design teachers and the Cri Mosaici team. This engaging and creative endeavor allowed the young student-artists to challenge themselves with commitment and determination, navigating through mistakes and moments of frustration. It represents both an invaluable life lesson and a flagship project by Fondazione Millesoli, confirming its mission to support young people through educational paths that unite human values, inclusion, and beauty, firmly believing that the strength of the whole stems precisely from the diversity of its pieces.
The initial outcome is a large 40-square-meter mosaic composed of 19,000 tiles, which is already visible on the external perimeter wall of the Municipio 5 building. This installation is just one phase of an even more ambitious vision. In fact, the second phase of the mosaic will kick off in the coming months; once completed, the entire artwork will feature approximately 45,000 tiles, spanning a total surface area of 100 square meters.
“Mosaic Project: caring for the local area one tile at a time” is a project by Fondazione Millesoli, Municipio 5 and the Kandinsky Institute.

Once again, Urban Up has shared its spaces with the local community, generating real value for the neighborhood and contributing to making the city more inclusive.
